AZIZ SANCAR BOOK PUBLISHED BY TUBITAK POPULAR SCIENCE PUBLICATIONS
Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center’s Founding Advisory Board Member Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar’s book, which was previously published in English, has now been published by TUBITAK Popular Science Publications with the title “Aziz Sancar’s Life and Science in His Own Words”. Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar spent his scientific life searching for an answer to two questions: “How can a DNA molecule be repaired?” and “How does the biological clock work?” At a young age, he made discoveries on DNA damage repair that found their way into course books and was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for these discoveries. The discoveries he made on the biological clock during his prime are equally valuable. Prof. Dr. Sancar’s marvellous contributions in two different scientific fields make him a truly an outstanding scientist. This book written in English by Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, who made it into Nobel archives as a Turkish-American scientist and, thus, became the first Turk to become a Nobel laureate in the field of science, was translated into Turkish by IBG Director Prof. Dr. Mehmet Öztürk. Prof. Dr. Sancar gave extensive support towards the Turkish translation, as well as reviewing and approving the text. The first part of the book appeals to all readers, whereas the second part serves as a reference guide to those curious about the essence of Prof. Dr. Sancar’s scientific discoveries, high school and university students, teachers and readers specialized in medicine and life sciences.
