Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center and Oxford University will collaborate in the health field.
Dokuz Eylül University (DEU), İzmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), and University of Oxford are launching a joint collaboration in the field of cardiovascular diseases (cardiology) to conduct scientific research and academic cooperation. As part of this initiative, various projects will be developed to enhance academic interaction between the two universities.
Prof. Dr. Paul Riley, Director of the Institute of Developmental & Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) at the University of Oxford, Prof. Dr. David Paterson, Director of the Medical Sciences Division and Head of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy, and Genetics at Oxford, along with Prof. Dr. Bayram Yılmaz, Rector of DEU and Director of IBG, and Prof. Dr. Emin Evren Özcan from DEU Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cardiology, visited the Oxford University Medical School on February 17-18, 2025.
During the visit, joint projects on the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and regenerative medicine applications were discussed. In a meeting where the details of scientific collaboration were addressed, plans were also made to develop academic exchange programs between the two universities. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Birhan Yılmaz, Vice President of the TÜSEB and a member of DEU Cardiology Department, and Prof. Dr. Şermin Genç from IBG participated in the meeting via Zoom, presenting their ongoing projects and sharing insights on potential areas of collaboration.
This academic partnership aims to develop new technologies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, increase scientific publications, and strengthen international academic engagement.
