2024 IBG Science Day: An Inspiring Meeting
The 2024 IBG Science Day, held at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Centre (IBG) on 25 November 2024, brought together scientists, students and researchers with the scientific support of the Turkish Brain Research and Neurosciences Association (TÜBAS). In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Bayram Yılmaz, Director of the IBG Centre, drew attention to the social responsibility of science and its mission to inspire young researchers.
In this annual event, which was held with the theme of ‘neuroscience’, Prof. Dr Görsev Yener, Prof. Dr Müge Yemişci Özkan, Prof. Dr Emre Bora, Prof. Dr Ertugrul Kilic and other distinguished speakers provided important information about the future of neuroscience. During the event, how neuroscience can be carried forward in cooperation with other disciplines was discussed and innovative studies in this field were shared.
In the Career Development Panel, three expert scientists shared their experiences and guided young researchers. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammet Karaman highlighted the innovations in cancer treatments; Assoc. Prof. Dr Kemal Uğur Tüfekci emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation, and Dr Aslı Ayaz underlined the interdisciplinary approach with her work in neuroelectronics.
In the event, IBG Academic Performance Awards were also given to students who stood out with their outstanding achievements. These awards, given for the first time, motivated young researchers. The ‘IBG Science Medal’ was awarded to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih İnci for his pioneering work in nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.
