ASSOC.PROF.DR. CAN KUCUK IS AWARDED WITH AMERICAN SOCIETY OF HEMATOLOGY AWARD

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Can Kucuk's ASH Award

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Can Kucuk, a principle investigator at Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG) and a faculty at Dokuz Eylul University Medical Biology Branch, has been selected to receive one of the American Society of Hematology Global Research Award. Dr. Kucuk, who works on lymphoid cancer biology and genomics, will investigate the genomic and transcriptomic profiles of tumors and circulating cell-free DNA from patients with benign plasma cell neoplasms to improve non-invasive diagnosis and prediction of transition to multiple myeloma for three years with 140.000 USD financial support. Prof. Dr. Guner Hayri Ozsan, the president of Turkish Society of Hematology, and Prof. Dr. John Chan, co-leader of Hematology Malignancies Program at City of Hope, will be the local and global mentors of the ASH award project, respectively. This project will include extensive collaboration in particular with DEU Hospital and other hospitals/universities in Izmir and other cities of Turkey.

The Society's mission is to further the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting the blood, bone marrow, and the immunologic, hemostatic and vascular systems, by promoting research, clinical care, education, training, and advocacy in hematology. The ASH Global Research Award is the Society’s newest award, designed to support future international scientific leaders, increase hematology capacity, and nurture global collaboration.
