The Turkish Association for Cancer Research and Control (TACRC) hosted the Trailblazers in Oncology Summit in Antalya between 14-16 November 2019.
IBG Group leader Prof. Dr. Esra Erdal received a project award, whereas two other IBG Group Leaders Assoc. Prof. Can Küçük and Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sağ received best paper awards. IBG students Ezgi Bağırsakçı, Esra Katkat and Burcu Şengez received oral presentation awards.
Prof. Dr. Esra Erdal’s joint project with Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Fırtına Karagonlar from Izmir University of Economics on “Research on the molecular effects of regorafenib on multicellular 3D tumor spheroids built with sorafenib-resistant cells” was one of the 6 projects to receive an award among 103 projects.
Moreover, 6 out of 77 papers published by Turkish scientists in the last 10 years in basic and clinical oncology received awards at the Trailblazers in Oncology Summit. Assoc. Prof. Can Küçük’s paper “Küçük C. et al, Activating mutations of STAT5B and STAT3 in lymphomas derived from γδ-T or NK cells, Nature Communications, 2015” and Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sağ’s paper “Sag D. et al, The cholesterol transporter ABCG1 links cholesterol homeostasis and tumour immunity, Nature Communications, 2015” received awards.
Finally, 7 out of 86 oral presentations received awards at the Summit. Ezgi Bağırsakçı from Atabey Lab (The role of Caveolin-1 in sorafenib resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma), Esra Katkat from Özhan Lab (Melanocyte regeneration and comparison of the molecular mechanisms of melanoma on the zebrafish model) and Burcu Şengez from Alotaibi Lab (Determining transcription factors affecting epigenetic reprogramming in the mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) process) received awards for their oral presentations.
