The international project of an IBG scientist and her team received funding from the TUBITAK-ARDEB-2501 Program.
IBG Research Group Leader Assist. Prof. Zeynep Ahsen KOÇER and her team received funding from the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK) within the scope of 2501- Joint Research Program with the National Science Foundation (NSF) of USA for their project titled “FLU-SHIFT: Genetic and Phenotypic Contribution of Swine Influenza Viruses to the Ecological and Evolutionary Dynamics of Human Influenza A Viruses”.
The project aims to investigate the emergence of novel genetic variants that may affect tissue tropism and disease severity during the course of influenza infections in humans, as well as the genetic relatedness of contemporary human influenza viruses to swine influenza viruses to assess the risk for interspecies transmission that may eventually facilitate pandemic emergence.
The project will be coordinated by Assist. Prof. Zeynep A. KOÇER and implemented in collaboration with Prof. Ayça Arzu SAYINER, Prof. Vildan AVKAN OĞUZ and Prof. Nurşen BELET from Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine, PhD student M. Ekin AZBAZDAR from Dokuz Eylül University Izmir International Biomedicine and Genome Institute, and the prominent researchers in the field of influenza at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA.
