A research study led by Prof. Dr. Güneş Özhan and Prof. Dr. Ayşe Semra Koçtürk from Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine at the Cellular-Based Product Development Laboratory of Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center has been published in Journal of Neuroscience Research.

The study, titled “Epigallocatechin Gallate and Punicalagin Combination Reduces Aβ Aggregation and Promotes Neurogenesis in Adult Zebrafish Brain,” demonstrates that the combined use of two natural compounds (EGCG and punicalagin) significantly reduces amyloid-beta (Aβ) accumulation in an adult zebrafish model of Alzheimer’s disease.

The treatment also suppressed neuroinflammation, protected neurons, promoted neurogenesis, and improved anxiety- and aggression-like behaviors.

These findings suggest that combining bioactive natural compounds may offer a promising multi-target therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease.
