Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a small vertebrate experimental model widely used in basic, translational, and biopharmaceutical research. The İBG Zebrafish Facility has been operating since 2016 and is one of the leading laboratories in Türkiye. Our unit provides infrastructure and technical support that comply with national and international standards, ensure hygienic conditions, and implement advanced technologies, offering these resources to researchers and the private sector.
Due to its high genetic similarity to humans and the conservation of functional characteristics of organs and organ systems, zebrafish is an effective model for translational research. Using genome-editing tools and transgenic technologies, experimental models can be generated for biological processes and diseases of interest. In addition, chimeric animals and xenograft cancer models can be established by transplanting human cells into zebrafish. Zebrafish stands out as a practical and efficient model for ecotoxicology and drug toxicology tests at both adult and larval stages. It is well suited for modeling genetic diseases, drug testing, and mechanistic studies using gene-editing tools.
The İBG Zebrafish Facility and laboratories are among the most advanced and well-equipped zebrafish facilities in Türkiye. With a large housing capacity and state-of-the-art equipment, it offers an ideal working environment for both internal and external researchers involved in zebrafish-based research projects.
The unit provides technical infrastructure and support services enabling fish housing in automated systems, production of transgenic and mutant fish via microinjection systems, and live imaging using fluorescent and color cameras.
Our expert team is responsible for the daily care of all fish in the facility. The breeding, feeding, rearing, and health monitoring of all fish strains are fully carried out by the unit staff.
Our facility houses transgenic reporter, wild-type, and mutant strains.
Support is also provided for project-specific business development and project consultancy processes. In this context, services are offered to internal and external researchers as well as the private sector in areas such as the generation of disease models, development of mutant fish, and establishment of transgenic lines.
Follow-up services are also provided for the import or transfer of zebrafish strains from abroad or from other institutions within the country.
The İBG Zebrafish Facility is open to all stakeholders who wish to use zebrafish models. If you would like to use fish models in your project or business processes, please contact us to benefit from our standard services or from customized consultancy services and applications tailored to your project.
Research conducted in our facility has been published in international high–impact factor journals.
