ANTİKAD Honors IBG Principal Investigator with the “2025 Academic of the Year” Award

Dr. Sibel Kalyoncu, Principal Investigator at the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), has been awarded the 2025 “Academic of the Year” prize by the Antalya Business Women’s Association (ANTİKAD).

The award, presented annually by ANTİKAD to recognize academics who contribute to science, education, and societal development, was conferred in recognition of Dr. Kalyoncu’s innovative and high-impact research, particularly in the field of cancer research. Her studies contribute to a deeper understanding of the molecular basis of cancer while aiming to develop next-generation biotechnological approaches for diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Sibel Kalyoncu’s areas of expertise include antibody engineering, directed evolution, and biopharmaceutical and vaccine production processes. Through these competencies, she leads projects focused on the development of advanced biotechnological products for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. Her interdisciplinary research stands out not only for its scientific merit but also for its potential to deliver tangible and sustainable outcomes in the field of healthcare.

Commenting on the award, Dr. Kalyoncu stated, “Being recognized for scientific work carried out through academia–industry collaborations in a field such as cancer, which directly affects public health, is a great source of motivation.”
