Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sag Appointed as Türkiye’s National Focal Point for UNESCO’s Science Decade Programme

Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sag, Principal Investigator of the IBG Cancer Immunology Laboratory, has been appointed as the National Focal Point of Türkiye for the “International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development,” proclaimed by the United Nations and coordinated by UNESCO, upon the recommendation of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO and with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The United Nations International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033) aims to strengthen the contribution of science to the Sustainable Development Goals and to promote global scientific cooperation. The Network of National Focal Points, established within the framework of the programme, plays a central role in ensuring coordination between Member States and UNESCO, as well as in supporting the effective implementation of the Decade’s objectives at the national level.

In her new role, Assoc. Prof. Duygu Sag will lead the national implementation of the Science Decade by coordinating between UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and relevant stakeholders in Türkiye. She will also work to enhance the international visibility of Türkiye’s scientific expertise and strengthen the country’s role in global science diplomacy.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duygu Sag, who received the L’Oréal–UNESCO International Rising Talent Award in 2018, has also been serving as a member of the Natural Sciences Committee of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO since 2022.
