INTRODUCTION TO OMICS TECHNOLOGIES:
Transcriptomics & Metagenomics
A 2-day training program titled "Introduction to Omics Technologies: Transcriptomics & Metagenomics" will be organized by the Bioinformatics Service Unit of the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG) on May 7 – 8, 2026.
Within the scope of this training program, participants will learn the fundamental concepts of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis and have the opportunity to experience transcriptomic and metagenomic data analysis processes both theoretically and practically.
In this beginner-level training, bioinformatics analysis processes will be covered step-by-step, aiming for participants to gain practical knowledge.
Day 1 – Transcriptomics Participants will learn and practically apply:
The fundamental principles of RNA-seq technology
Primary and secondary analysis processes
Quality control, alignment, and quantification steps
Differential gene expression analysis
Functional enrichment methods
Day 2 – Metagenomics Participants will learn and perform practical analyses on:
Microbiome and metagenomic analysis approaches
16S rRNA analysis principles
Taxonomic classification methods
Usage of Nextflow-based pipelines
Analysis processes with nf-core/ampliseq
Biological interpretation of the results
Date: May 7 – 8, 2026
Location: Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Center (IBG), Balçova / Izmir
Capacity: In-person attendance is limited to 22 people (based on registration priority)
Format: In-person & online (hybrid training)
In-person participation: 5000 TL (VAT included)
